J.D. Salinger Has Died  →
I’m not exaggerating when I say that J.D. Salinger changed my life. While he was a recluse, I always held on to the thought that he was living happily, even if it meant he would never publish again. That I’m grieving is all I can say.

Why NYC is worth every last penny
whiteleatherpalace: antikris: peterfeld: You get what you pay for. foureleven:katoleary:jackieheartsb: Reason #1: Julia Allison’s $2,550 apartment Brandon and I pay half that for a two bedroom townhouse with close to 1,800 feet of living space, a full washer/dryer and a backyard. I am 30 minutes from DC by train, less than that by car and only 25 minutes from Baltimore. I guess it...

Anonymous asked: Hey Gloria! How'd you get to be so smart and awesome???
Jan 12th
let's try this!
Did any of you want to ask me anything? Now you can! Click here and DO IT. Also, I’m allowing anonymous questions which tumblr politely warned me about: “Use at your own risk: Anonymity can be fun, but can also bring out the worst in people. …if Katie Roiphe is underwhelmed and unoffended by the sexually neutered males of Brooklyn fiction, she should check out this vast cultural wasteland called the internet. The best writing about sex is currently being done by the people who are smart/stupid enough to date and write about it. Dating wasn’t even really invented until the 1950s, it’s no wonder nobody knows how to do it. Molly...

alton's plan
Zach and I watched the new episode of Good Eats that aired last night (Live and Let Diet) and I was really inspired and encouraged by Alton, as his idea of a diet is not “eat as few calories as possible” but “eat good foods only”.  This plan helped him lose 50 pounds in 4 months, which, while it is not my goal, seems to be an amazing testament to the power of eating well...

the landlord
gjdsalinger: there's a spigot outside the entrance to my apt that is directly over the 4 stairs that lead to my door
gjdsalinger: and it is leaking => ice all over the stairs=> very dangerous
wired alchemy: yikes
gjdsalinger: so I emailed my landlord that I need a plumber
gjdsalinger: she replies "have you tried turning it off"
gjdsalinger: i wanted to punch her square in the jaw
wired alchemy: ha
gjdsalinger: "OH TURN IT OFF! UR SO CLEVER"
wired alchemy: it really takes a special kind of horrible person to be a landlord
